The Herodian Quarter is the largest and most important of Second Temple era sites in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. The six houses in this compound are remnants of the neighborhood in which Temple priests and other affluent families resided during the Second Temple period, and are located on the slope facing the Temple Mount. The large and magnificent houses are adorned with extraordinary, high precision mosaics.
The museum exhibit focuses on three houses: The Western House, the Middle Complex and the Palatial Mansion. The residential areas were designed in the Hellenistic/Roman style that was popular at the time. Magnificence, splendor and great wealth are interleaved with strict observance of purity and sanctity.
